Peer revision

One of the main things that helped me this semester the most with my writing was peer revision. Peer revision helped me because when you spend a lot of time writing a paper sometimes you miss small things and even big things. So with peer revision you have a new pair of eyes to go back over your paper so they can catch the problems. Also peers can give you good advice on how to improve your paper so it is good to have them too look over your paper even if you feel it is complete. The time I can remeber that I was so thankful for the peer review was when I was writing the beginning of my research paper I had a friend in class look at it and they helped me a lot. They helped me understand where I needed to take my paper as in who my audience should be and how I should approach it. Writing is a process and I think that one of the most important things about it is getting feedback from your potential audience and peers. When writing I will always get peer advice because I know the importance of having someone elses point of view. I think that peer revision was one of the most impotant things that I gained knowledge about this semester.

Appeals

One of the most interesting things I learned this semester were the diffrent appeals and how to accuratly use them, as in what appeals to use in certain types of papers. The first appeal we learned about was ethos which is an appeal that is based on the character of the speaker, relying solely on the reputation of another. This is something that we used in our research paper. We took the information from sources and used them to varify our points on a topic. The key is to use credible sources such as with my paper since it was over ADHD is was smart to use sources relating to medicine and medical research. Another appeal we learned about is logos. Logos is an appeal based on logic or reason, this kind of appeal is usually used with companies or large corporations, and sometimes with scholarly documents. This is because they are in a trying to give you the cold hard facts that are reasonable so you will buy their product or realize what the are talking about through searching through your own basic reason. The last appeal we learned about it pathos which is personally the kind of writinng that I like to do this appeal, appeals to readers emotions. Advertisements are usually veered toward your emotions, when you see those poor african children you want to send money because it hurts your heart to see them living the way they do, because they got ahold of your emotions. All of these appeals are important to know about because you can use them in a variety of places, so I was very interested in learing about them this semester.

Who am I trying to reach

In my paper I included only quality information that I knew would educate and inform my audience. My intended audience is parents and others who either have ADHD or are affected by it on a regular basis. I also was intending to help those who have just learned that either they or someone in their family has ADHD, so that they understand the condition and how to accuratly treat it the best way for the individual. The main point to my paper is to educate the un-educated about ADHD and how serious it is. So hopefully we can stop all the critizism against this disorder. If we stop the critizism then maybe those affected will seek better care for their disorder so that they can control it before it becomes a serious issue that is hard to cope with. ADHD is easily treated and I intend to inform my readers of that the more eduacated about ADHD our society is the better off we are to keep developing better ways to treat it along with breaking the sterotypes our society puts around this disorder.

Suprising

While researching ADHD from time to time I would find out something that would really suprise me. The thing that I found out that suprised me the most was that individuals that have ADHD usually stop taking medication for it when they get older. And the worst part is the only real reason that was said was because they got embarassed of having this so called child's disorder. So as a society we have put so much negativity into having these kinds of disorders that affected individuals will go so far as to stop taking medication because they are embarassed of it. I think that this shows a great deal of immaturity and lack of respect that our society has for its own people. It is one thing to ridicule another society because they are diffrent but we are talking about our own society and we act as though this disorder is so bad that we cause those who it affects the worst to cease treatment because they do not want to be made fun of or lose an oppurtunity because of a problem they really can't help.

What I learned from my research

In researching ADHD, and collecting data I learned many interesting things about ADHD as a disorder, how its treated and so on. The most interesting thing I found is that ADHD never goes away. It is not something that you just grow out of ever time it is something that stays with you all the way into adulthood. Most people treat ADHD as a condition only in children that develops because of lack of discipline or quality discipline. All through out my research they emphasized that ADHD is a serious chronic condition. This means that it is not due to poor discipline or anything like that it is simply just a disorder that an individual develops and some researchers believe it to be hereditary. All in all i found my research to be extremly informative and the one of the most interesting things I learned is that you never grow out of ADHD. Which makes me realize why it is so important to treat it and treat it accuratly so that it doesn't control you, you can control it.

Problems

I honestly did not encounter too many problems with my research that were too hard to handle on my own or with a little help. But one major problem that did make my research a little more complicted is that in being really specific with my topic I allowed a small window of information. I would search for hours for information that would follow the topic of my paper. I initially found a lot of research but in narrowing my topic my research began to fade because is would not directly correspond with my paper. To solve this problem of lack of resources to back my information I looked for articles that said the opposite that, articles that completly disagreed with me and put those in my paper. But with putting in articles that did not agree with what I was saying I had to come up with a clever way to prove them wrong and show that my view was the better one and that theirs was flawed in some way. This taught me a great deal as frustrating as it seemed at first it showed me that sometimes you have to think outside the box and figure out what exacly the argument against you would be so you can better argue point because you are knowledgeable of what they would question about your topic and you can counter act it.

Tedious

The most tedious and meticulous thing I had to read this semester was actually two diffrent scholarly journals from Ebsco. But they are not just your common user friendly article they were scientific researchs. So inside of the article there was quite a bit of gargin and huge words that I had no idea what they were because they were like scientific words used in studies. But after reading and re- reading and working deligently to try and understand these two sources I eventually made sense of them. Not only did I make sense of them but I used both in my research paper because they had a great deal to do with my topic they were just a little bit wordy and difficult to read every now and then. Really the hardest part of the experiments to understand were all the tables they were set up so that they correlated with the experiment well but they used a lot of vocabulary that was confusing to me and described things that I really didn't understand most of the time. But with research and a little outside help from individuals I conquered this beast and tamed it as my own.

Interesting

The most interesting article that I read this semester was one that wason my research paper topoic, that never made it into my paper. I did not put it in my paper because it did not have an relavent information that truly pertained to my topic of choice. The article did however expand on ADHD and explain how if ADHD is not caught at an early age it can cause other problems usually not very serious ones but problems just the same. The most interesting thing that is said untreated ADHD can lead to is allergies to foods especially dairy products, you wouldn't become lactose intolerant or anything but an un-treated ADHD individual could actually form an allergy to milk. The reason this topic is so interesting to me is because my brother's ADHD was not caught until we were older and before we found out he had ADHD he was diagnosed with an allergy to all milk products. This may or may not have any correlation to his ADHD but after this article I believe it is very likely. So I learned an interesting fact although it did not go in my paper it was very interesting to learn about because it has a connection to my own life.

what technology means to me

Technology may not be welcomed with open arms by everyone in our day and age, but to me it seems just like a new adventure. I have discovered that technology is a great tool and everyone should try their best to learn as much as they can about this new technology fad. I believe technology is a great source of assistance in studies, communication, and can also be used just for fun and recreation.
School in general is very difficult and challenging but technology can allow you to tackle the hardships of college. Technology can allow you to look up all different types of references to write a paper of any type. Technology can allow you to find articles from many years ago or read about a historical event that happened when you were too young to remember. The many advances with technology also help with grammar, spelling, and sentence structure while writing a paper. If ever you need help with guidelines to writing or anything you can find it on the internet which is extremely helpful. As a student I have used technology to help me in many aspects of my schooling. I have looked up articles on a controversial subject to do a persuasive speech. I also have used technology to better understand historical events that have been discussed in a class that I did not fully understand. Technology has helped me expand my grammar, improve my vocabulary, comprehend history better, and many other things that are very useful as a student.
Another very important reason technology is important is that it allows communication to be much easier than it used to be. Now all we have to do is pull out our cell phone to talk to a friend or relative that lives a great distance away, when many years ago they would have to write and deliver a letter on horse back. I think that most people over look this luxury simply because it is so easy to. We also can communicate with a professor or fellow student by email. If you yourself do not have a computer the library has plenty and also there are a few in the student center. If a business person wants to make a business transaction with china all they have to do is type them an email and then use a simple button to translate it then send the letter and the recipient gets it in no more than a couple of minutes. Americans have made great advances in technology and they should be taken advantage of.
A fun thing that technology has done for us is that it has made almost a different world in the advancement of games. We no longer all sit in a circle and play innocent board games, now we play virtual games. We can hunt wild game or play the cowboys in football on our new technologically advanced x-box 360 and play station three’s it is a broad world out there in the recreational side of the technology. And each day they come out with new games that make it the experience seem more real and vivid then the ones before it. Games that make you experience the battle field as though you are on the front line or dunk with Shaq just like you are a pro. We have come a long ways from our board games and dices it is a new exciting day and time.
It is brand new day and age where anything is possible and that is true because of the technological advances that have been reached in the last decades. From student and business studies to communication and games our technology has become a prominent excelling factor in the world today. I myself believe technology is a great thing and enjoy indulging myself in its many wonders.

Free writing

I thourougly enjoyed the free writing during class because it helped me get a grasp on my research paper better. I found things I missed and things that I needed to add in that I had completly forgot about. Free writing is just that... "free" you don't feel pressured or hurried it is un like a research paper you don't feel bound by all the types rules and stipulations so it can be more relaxed and enjoyable. Free writinig allows you to write whatever you want and however you want to do.

Synthesis

“The Evocative Power of Things” by Grant McCracken

"The Evocative Power of Things" by Grant McCracken talks about how society is always trying to advance to the next bigger and/or better thing. And that the pull on these worldly goods is getting to be more powerful because we have more access to easy money. This easy money he is referring to is what Laperriere was talking about in his article “House of Cards”. Some loans as mentioned by Laperriere are used to consolidate credit card bills so a lot of times people will use loans to pay off credit cards but all it really does is delay their payments. These loans are available to almost anyone that has credit already established, so even I could get a loan. I have good credit but all I have ever had to make sure I pay is my car payment every month, but that does not mean that I am ready for such a responsibility as a loan, which can also be said for most people who are getting issued these loans. They practically hand loans out there is no process to be done you do not have to go through a background check or anything for the loan you just have to have pre- established credit. In the short run Americans see this as a great opportunity, so they are snatching them up left and right but in the long run are they such a great thing? It really is only a diversion to make them feel like they have no debts but honestly it is just a cover up for their problems.

Synthesis

House of Cards by Andrew Laperriere,

In Andrew Laperriere's "House of Cards" article he talks about the low housing market as in where it can be found and he informs the reader about bank loans and the tricks that barrowers tend to use to lure in people. One of the main things he talks about is how people do not have to provide verification of income or even have a down payment to get a housing loan. Laperriere states how many people are taking the "lower rate" loans in hopes to buy a new house or they use it to get rid of their financial problems by refinancing their home. The main problem that Laperriere is talking about is that subprime lenders took to many risks because the American people used and abused their policies, all they needed was established credit if they even asked for that so anyone really got a loan. But then they ran into problems on not being able to pay them off adequately so the lenders lost money and realized, hopefully, what a mistake they made.

What I am taking away

Going into this writing class I really had taken some good English classes throughout my career as a student but most of my classes only focused on grammar and making sure my sentences were configured in a way to portray great writing skills. Although that stuff is important I have learned that it is not all there is to writing and English especially. So going into this class I had no idea even what synthesizing a document was all about not to mention knowing how to actually do it. But when Mrs. Bowles assigned the two articles by Laperriere and McCracken I decided to really investigate and figure out this whole synthesizing thing. First a looked up synthesis because I thought I knew what it was but I wanted to be sure. When I looked it up my dictionary said that a synthesis is a result of combination, a new unified whole of various components. Well that is what I had thought of it as but it put it in better terms than I ever could have, I never thought of summarizing which is basically what it is as a new unified whole of various information. So I had a new hold on what I was doing. While reading through these articles it really helped when I used the hints that Mrs. Bowles instructed, such as relating things back to our own lives and making connections, and summarizing as I go in sections so that it would make more sense along the way.

Favorite

My favorite assignment that we did this semester was the brochure. I know that is was just a branch off of our Research paper but I found it extremly fun to design and put together. I feel like with so many pages the research paper is a bit overwhelming but with the brochure the information was interesting. All of the information that I put in my brochure was good quality information and it was directed toward families and parents of those who have ADHD so that they can understand the disorder and know how to cope with it. It wasn't something that took a lot of time but it was all the of the high points of my paper that I felt were the most impotant and should be shared about ADHD. I even think that my brochure could be used at docot's offices. I better copywright is or someone might steal it. j/k

APA format

I was very confused when we first started our research paper and she said we had to do APA format. I had never been subject to APA format before, in all of the previous writing and English classes that I have taken all I have used is MLA format. Since my mind was trained to MLA format it was hard for me to understand APA format I messed up quite a few times when siteing my sources but after a little help from a friend, my old book, and the Purdue site I began to understand it more and more as I had to use it through out the semster. The real challenge for me was formatting my paper to fit APA format because once again my mind was trained to MLA so I didn't understand that the title of the paper had to be at the top of the page, and that on the title page the title had to go before your name and that everything had to be centered. None of my other teachers even my writing one teacher was never that specific about formatting. I do understand why formatting is important in a paper so I am glad for hard grading on my formatting. In the end I know after this semster I will walk away a better writer with a greater understanding and respect for formatting.

What to do?

Initially I figured that this class was going to be one of those classes that I would take that would be super easy never challenge me and teach me nothing. I know a dull outlook right. Well I was completly wrong in my notions. Not only has this class challenged me but it has also taught me some new things about how to write. I definatly learned how to elaborate on a very specific topic. Another important thing that i learned is how to accuratly research a topic, the library was a great help proquest is where I found most of my information from scholarly journals. I learned a lot also from my peers due to all the peer revisions that we did in and a few I did out of class. Sometimes when you spend countless hours working on a paper you miss minor mistakes that you can make by accident. Peer review allows you to have a new set of eyes who haven't been staring at your paper for days or even weeks so all the little and big mistakes that went un noticed before become very obvious to a peer.

ADHD and ME!

So I am sure the few of you who were there to see me do my presentation on my research topic were like wow this girl is crazy but really I have just been affected by a lot in my short nineteen years of living. ADHD and me is a blog I have been wanting to write but telling myself I shouldn't because it embarasses me just like it does the majority of teens with it. ADHD to most people just seems like a problem that kids have that causes them to be hyper and inattentive, and as true as that is, that is not all there is to it. I have ADHD and so does my twin brother so I have been living through all the terrors and yes the few blessings of having ADHD. Firstly just to help a few understand how it can serioulsy affect a person, think about something you love to do! ... ok got it! The one thing that I love to do is read, and I don't mean like read magazines, or the paper, or facebook or anything like that I mean like sit down and read in depth mystery novels. I know you thinking well yeah I know people who like to read well then my question is do they have ADHD? If they do then you should ask them about how difficult it is for them to read even though they really enjoy it. I honestly can be reading for ten or twenty minutes and pause for a minute and realize that I have not retain a thing that I read and that is with things that I want to read so can you imagine what it is like with things that I don't want to read. Its a little more than frustrating. The only good thing that I have noticed that I have learned from having ADHD is how to handle others with ADHD especially children which is why I have chosen to teach early childhood education. I am living through my problem and not letting it control me.

Treatments for ADHD

Classroom based interventions are used commonly to treat problem symptoms of ADHD these interventions include educational strategies, peer-directed strategies, and self-management strategies. Educational and instructional interventions in the classroom help to encourage organization and instructional techniques that make ADHD symptoms seem much less. Examples of this treatment strategy include the use of instructional materials to increase stimulation to students with ADHD during academic tasks to highten their attention and improve their performance in the classroom. Another form of treatment that has been widely researched is behavioral management. The main way to do this is to increase on-task behaviors, task completion, control of impluses, and working on social skills. Positive reinforcement, punishment, and response cost techniques are the most widely used of techniques in behavior therapies. One treatment that is used by individuals with ADHD, and is a self management strategies but a teacher is also commonly involved. This form of treatment allows the individuals with ADHD to self-evalute themselves by evaluating the set standard for behavior and adjusting to it, to control their ADHD symptoms. Attention Training is also a very popular form of treatment for ADHD that is effective while being quit subtle and makes the individual feel as though they are taking control of their disorder.

The treatment of ADHD

The treatment for ADHD is not just one set form of treatment it varies depending on the individual and the family of that individual. To help families decide how their child should be treated the National Institute for Mental Health conducted many studies to and funded many studies to evaluate the treatment of ADHD. The largest study conducted in evaluating the treatment was the Multimodal Treatment Study of Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (MTA). They studied children on the elementary age level, and they conducted four diffrent types of treatment. The four diffrent groups were medication only, therapy only, a combination of the two, and the final group under went only routine community care all of this was over a span of fourteen months. All of them were montitered deffrently such as being seen monthly for an hour and a half to be montiterd (medicine and therapy) or seen whenever the parents took them in (routine community care). A major help to the study was the help of parents and teachers with the kids who took medicine, therapy, or both. Really the only way to know what kind of treatment that your child would need is to experiment. Some children may have bad side effects to medicine so that therapy is a better option for them but it is diffrent for each child you just have to know your child and talk to your physician and work out a plan for your child based on their specific condition.

Informative video on ADHD

While just gathering some basic information for my research paper I found this video on ADHD. It is very informative and interesting. If you have been wondering about ADHD you should definatly watch this. It tells the basic signs that a child may exhibit if they have ADHD and when it should become a concern. I encourage you to go check it out not only is it a source of great information but it is interesting to hear a few of the topics they talk about in this video. It explains what to look for if you think a child has ADHD and how it should properly be taken care of. Just go look at it and if you have any questions what so ever just message me and I will inform you or direct you to a cite or person who can better answer your question.

Important topics about behavioral treatment

The most important thing about behavioral treatment is adjustment, you need to adjust the enviornment to where you promote more successful social interactions. One good adjustment is more structure and encouraging routines this allows the child with ADHD to gain more of an understanding on social interactions on their own. A few things that can help a lot in organizing the life of an ADHD child is to creating a schedule and helping them organize everyday items. The schedule should be consistent from day to day and should include play time and homework time. And the things that you can help them organize should be items like backpacks, clothes, school supplies, and certain toys like cars or dinosaurs.
Most of the time behavioral treatment for adults is diffrent. They should be treated in ways such as individual cognitive and behavioral therapy to enhance self-esteem, relaxation training and stress management to reduce anxiety and stress , and other tactics that help them to understand how to organize at home and at work along with how to stay on task and so fourth. All of these things are beneficial when under going behavioral treatment and should be put into consideration.

Behavioral therapy for adults with ADHD

ADHD is a very serious condition and it does carry over into adulthood some grow out of it but most do not. And once those with ADHD become older they start to get really embarassed by it because most people lable it as a childs disoder, and some think that if I child has ADHD they just simply do not know how to act correctly of are or were not accuratly disciplined. All of these notions are wrong ADHD is a very real disorder that is un- avoidable if you have it you have it no way around it. As an adult having ADHD can be very agonizing its hard to work in the occupational world due to the fact that it is hard for ADHD individuals to sit still for long amounts of time and paying attention is a harder task than you would think. So as a result of ridicule and other forms of embarassment that come with ADHD most adults will become depressed or angry due to the negative feedback they get from those around them who do not understand. In Steven Safren's study he is hoping to gain the knowledge of if it is helpful to adults with ADHD who have been stabilized on medicine but still show symptoms of ADHD if going to behavioral therapy reagularly will help them cope better with their disorder. At the end of his study Safren records that most who underwent the therapy showed great results in the end. Their depression and anxiety had lowered considerably and they had a positive outlook after the study.

ADHD genetic

After much research neurochemical markers and family genetic analyses have confirmed the neurobiological bases of ADHD. Which means yes ADHD is a genetic disorder. There are multiple genes associated with some the affects of ADHD but each have just a small affect, however it makes things just a little more complicated. The use of medicine has always been a great choice to deal with disorders such as ADHD and it also works well for ADHD. Medicines such as benzedrine which is an amphetamine have been used to treat the symptoms of this disorder. Other medicines that have been used are Ritalin and Concerta all of which are designed to lessen and stablize the symptoms of an individual with ADHD. These stimulants cause a significant improvement in attention, hyperactivity, impulse control, and aggressiveness, which all lead to better organization of behavior, task completion, and self-regulation. There is also a great improvement in social skills, you can see this by peer ratings and parent and teacher ratings of social function, there is also short-term improvement in academic efficiency and productivity.

Intervention ADHD children

Parents play a major role in the intervention of children with ADHD. Problems in parent-child interactions, marital relationships, family functioning, and parental adjustment are common in some, though certainly not all, families of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Most of the time these problems begin in the preschool years and may carry all the way over into adolescents. When it comes to therapy, kids who live in a home where there are family problems especially between the child and a parent or both parents they are treated diffrently than kids who do not have problems at home. So it is very important that at the first signs of problems between parent and child that therapy wise you do something. Mainly in this scholarly journal Charles E Cunningham is giving very particular information on how therapy can help families and individauls with ADHD but that for it to really work diffrent families will have to have diffrent types of therapy that are specifically designed to fit their problem areas the best. Therapy can be very helpful to those who have ADHD and their families but many things contribute to the type of therapy that is neccessary for each family. Every person who is going to do therapy needs to access their life and decide what kind of therapy they need that will be the most beneficial to the family as a whole and mainly the child with ADHD.

Behavioral Therapy study

In Saskia van der Oord's study, "Does brief, clinically based, intensive multimodal behavior therapy enhance the effects of methylphenidate in children with ADHD?" he proposes to study if behavioral therapy along side medicine really does help those individuals who have or who are affected by ADHD better control and understand the symptoms. Fifty children with diagnosed ADHD between the age of eight and twelve were randomly treated with methylphenidate or with methylphenidate combined with 10 weeks of multimodal behavior therapy. The multimodal behavior therapy consisted of a child and parent behavioral therapy and a teacher behavioral training. Assessments included parent, teacher and child ratings of ADHD symptoms, oppositional and conduct behavior, social skills, parenting stress, anxiety and self-worth. Both treatments showed great outcomes but there was not a show of diffrence between the two experimental groups. There was no great evidence that signified that the behavioral therapy made a big diffrence to the treatment. This study concluded that behavioral therapy should not be treated to diagnosed ADHD children with the notion that it will make their symptoms better because their experiment did not show that. Howeve I feel that the behavioral therapy is not just used to make the symptoms better but to educate the parents, teacher, and child of the condition. Not so that they can significantly change the symptoms but that they may understand the condition better and how to accuratly deal with situations that may arise that need some help in how to handle them.

ADHD a neurobiological disorder

Among America's youth four to twelve percent have ADHD. ADHD is a very serious condition, he many impacts of ADHD include academic failure, delinquency, and low occupational performance. This is why it is such a serious condition it will not only affect you while you are young but the effects carry over into adulthood. Evidience currently addresses ADHD by core symptoms and how necessary it is to continue on going care to accuratly treat all the symptoms. The critical issue in evaluating the benefits of treatment is not the core symptoms, but the extent to which those core symptoms impair the children's ability to function. So must medicines and therapies try and accuratly treat the major problems with ADHD like in attention they try to help the student highten their attention span so they can become more aware in the classroom to what is going on and understand better. It is ok to let a student rock back and fourth or him if that is what is necessary for them to pay attention they may need that to help them stay focused. Little things can be ignored, sacrifice a small disturbance to allow a studen to better learn and stay attentative.

The use of Methylphenidate in children with ADHD

In this study Benedetto is examining the immediate-release methylphenidate effectiveness on children with symptoms of ADHD. The testing is being done on one hundred and forty preschoolers with ADHD, who had improved with acute immediate-release methylphenidate treatment. It was a ten month study to investigate the long-term effectiveness of the IR-MPH in preschoolers. The experiment was an outpatient experiement the child was just monitored and came back frequently to be exaimined to see how they were reacting to the medicine. Where their symptoms increaseing or decreasing? Did they need a higher dose? Was their body responding well to the treatment?, and so fourth. All the children involved in the sudy expressed great outcomes at the end of the ten months. Their symptoms had decreased very greatly. Their was dose adjustment done during this process so the results may have been diffrent for individuals due to the amount of dosing adjustment neccesary it might have taken a bit longer to get some of the children's symptoms undercontrol. The experiment was very conclucive in that the Methylphenidate was very effective to the children treated with it. I think this study was a good one they covered all the areas that were necessary. The parents and teachers reported that they could see considerable amounts of positive change in their child with ADHD, the childrens doses were changed according to what they needed to accuratly contol their symptoms. This study was very effective and conclusive and taught me a great deal about ADHD.

Research study on ADHD

In this study done by Kristina K. Hardy and her collegues they due an experimental study on children's symptoms of ADHD who are in the age range of three to five. In this study all of the children tested showed at least one symptom of ADHD. The scientists conducted phone screenings just asking general questions about ADHD symptoms then they were invited to one of the PATS locations to complete the study. The parents took a test of sorts that asked them questions about their child in relation to ADHD and the symptoms that they have possessed. Then a similar test was given to the preshool teacher of the child so they too could inform the scientists of the childs behavior in realtion to ADHD. The study recognized that the parents and teachers could accuratly pick out at least two symptoms of ADHD in the child, but that parents were better at recognizing these symptomms. I belive that this study really was just used to study more young children because many under the age of six haven't been tested. It wasn't a bad study it just didn't really explain a lot I think it was just used to see if ADHD could be detected at such a young age. I am not sure if at three or four a child can be diagnosed with a learning disability such as ADHD. All children have a lack of attention of some sort at such a young age so I am not too sure that this is truly a genuine study to igknowledge as evidence that young children can be diagnosed with ADHD.

ADHD

While reading the articlce "Approaching ADHD as a Chronic Condition: Implications for Long-term Adherence" by Jeanne van Cleave I learned a lot of interesting things along with recognizing a few things that I already knew. ADHD is a chronic condition and one that should not be taken lightly. It is the most common disorder diagnosed in children (as common as asthma) and it persists into adulthood. ADHD is known to peak during middle childhood. A recent studies have been reviewed and shown that many patients with ADHD continue to exhibit symptoms beyond just childhood. As adults, they no longer meet the Diagnosis of ADHD but have significant functional impairment from their remaining symptoms of ADHD. Those who take short acting stimulants are less likely to carry out taking the medicine long term. There are other way ADHD can be treated such as behavioral therapy or simply just follow up visits with the primary care physician. Healthcare can be a problem with some individuals who have ADHD their insurance may not cover therapy so most times these individuals are the ones who do not recieve long term help with their ADHD, they do not carry out taking the medicine and they do not do the follow up examinations with their family care physician. As a result most struggle as adults in the work place and socially due to their problems with ADHD.
